SpringBuilder gives you an opportunity to configure SSL for your custom domain to keep sensitive information encrypted. We do not host any SSL on our servers as it is not secure, that is why we cannot generate a CSR code to enable SSL! If you want to make use of this advantage, we recommend making sure you’ve set up your CNAME with a DNS provider that supports SSL, like Cloudflare.
- How to configure SSL with Cloudflare?
In order to route your web traffic through the Cloudflare network you need to change your original nameservers to the Cloudflare nameservers.
First of all, sign up for Cloudflare and make note of your nameservers. You can find the Cloudflare name servers for your domain on your Cloudflare dashboard under Overview.
Not sure how to update your nameservers?
Please keep in mind, that all the domain registrars out there have some differences. We recommend contacting your registrar's support center for the most accurate information.
Next, go to the Cloudflare Dashboard, move to the ‘Crypto’ section and change SSL to ‘Flexible’. Please double check not to select ‘Full (Strict)’option, as this may result in an invalid SSL certificate.
Afterwards, scroll down the Crypto page and enable the Always use HTTPS function.
This step enters your custom domain URL followed by an asterisk: in our case, it would be https://www.mydomain.com/*
Finally, click ‘Save and Deploy.’
At the end, confirm your changes through the Cloudflare dashboard.
Note that, it may take up to 72 hours for the name server information to propagate.
Status: Active indicates your domain is properly set up to run through Cloudflare. You're done!
Once you've set up your Custom Domain through Cloudflare, make sure to move to Domain App on your Dashboard to enable SSL via Cloudflare option to permit https Protocol and correct sitemaps will be generated for your website, otherwise the previous actions won't take effect on your website!
*Please note, that enabling this option in case you haven't set up your Custom Domain through Cloudflare yet is highly discouraged and may crash your website or cause loading issues.
That’s it. Your custom domain should be fully secured and ready to go. Your SpringBuilder website visitors will see the green lock icon in their browser to assure that the site is secure.
